Aged Care OT

As life changes, the things that matter most usually stay the same: your home, your routines, and doing things your own way. Our aged care occupational therapists help you keep hold of them, safely and comfortably.

We come to you, whether that's your own home, supported accommodation or a residential care facility. Your therapist takes the time to get to know you, listens to what is and isn't working, and builds every recommendation around your goals.

Changes in mobility, memory, confidence or energy can make everyday tasks feel harder than they used to. Our Newcastle and Hunter team works alongside you and your family to find practical ways through, so you can keep doing the things that give your day shape and meaning.

What An Assessment Involves

An occupational therapy assessment looks at how you are managing at home right now. Your therapist will review how you move around, how safely you can get things done, and how you are going with everyday activities such as showering, dressing, preparing meals and getting in and out of the house.

Together we identify any risks, barriers or support needs that may be affecting your independence, safety or wellbeing. You then receive clear, practical recommendations to help you keep living safely and comfortably at home.

Seeing The Whole Picture

No two homes or routines are alike, so we look well beyond a checklist. Your therapist considers how your home is laid out, how steady and confident you feel in each room, and whether any changes in memory or thinking are making daily life harder.

We also ask about the things that keep you connected, such as seeing friends, getting to appointments, or staying involved in your community. If family members or carers support you, we include them too, making sure they have the right equipment, techniques and advice to help safely.

Who We Work With

We support older people living with a wide range of changes, including dementia and memory loss, reduced vision or hearing, frailty, falls, and long-term health conditions.

Whatever your situation, the starting point is always the same: what you want to keep doing, and what is getting in the way.

Planning Ahead & Funding Your Therapy

A good assessment looks forward as well as at today. If your mobility, care needs or routines are likely to change, we can help you prepare early, so that decisions are made calmly and on your terms instead of in a hurry.

If you are 65 or over, you may be eligible for government-funded aged care support. We can explain the options, and we work with your care coordinator or provider to plan how your funding is used.

Some recommendations, such as larger home modifications, need a detailed report before they can be approved. Simpler, low-cost items are often approved more quickly. Your therapist will guide you through each step and handle the paperwork with you.

We accept referrals through My Aged Care packages, as well as private referrals.
